Maverick, preacher, troubadour are just some of the words used to describe Jinx Lennonand as much can be said for the support acts at his album launch in the Sugar Club on Thursday night.

A night of rap and poetry ensued in theSugar Club and that’s before Jinx Lennonstrummed the first chord of his unique punk-eccentric-poetry-folk-funk-rock that attacks the core of social consciousness. At first, he brings a smile to your face but then the words sink in and the preaching of truth creates a discerning feeling as the themes become a little too close to home.

Support came from Kilkenny rapper Captain Moonlight and Tallaght poet Stephen Jones. Read the full review over on Drop-d

On Trauma Themes Idiot Times the punk-folk-poet-troubadour continues to take the word singer songwriter, douse it liberally with petrol, light it up and piss all over the flames.

His delivery and musical style is original to say the least and inspired by the nobility of “the maverick spirits of those who stood apart and were adamant about their own peculiar vision and who never really got the kudos they deserved, to a point where most people hated what they did.” But there’s nothing to hate about what Jinx Lennon does. He even pulls-off speaking in tongues…

Over the years people have become too conservative to rattle cages and ask difficult questions. Afraid to be seen questioning and look where that got us. Everyone is to blame, not just banks and governments.

Now, in turbulent economic times, it’s time for geek power to shine. While Charlie Brooker set the scene for a “summer of rage” and woe in a recent article in The Guardian, by the grace of mother earth freak power may restore its powerful ambition. Meanwhile, however, geeks will be building the foundations for a knowledge based economy.

It has already been said that this knowledge will tilt the world back on it’s monetary axis. It’s a pity that, Ireland, a country with a pitiful broadband connection service may miss out on it and become second rate.

How people use the Internet is changing at an alarming rate and it’ll be up to the geeks of the world to build a new order around it.

Imagine a world where geeks were in charge. There’d be no need for war, it’s a clear waste of human and technological resources. Religious fanatacism would leave the realm of power and the only thing that people would argue over is who stole who’s idea first?

Geeks of the world, unite. The world is yours: steer her well.

I got my hands on the latest release from Erased Tapes Records, Helvetica, an EP by Rival Consoles.It’s a wonderful, experimental mixing of classical and dance from purveyor of IDM, 21-year-old, Ryan Lee West. Here’s a snip of what I thought:

“…The senses are quickly thrown from the stability created by the opening dysfunctional piano lullaby, on opening title track Helvetica, as drum and bass beats take hold and move the song from concert hall reflections to post-modern underground rave. Indie is dead rises from the ashes of deathly chaos…”
